BABY BOOMERS- Keep on Building this Nation.

Written by

Baby Boomers have been an important part of this nation for more than six decades. They are the sons and daughters of the greatest generation in this countrys history. Big Sky Construction recently took a look at some fun facts about a generation that is building this nation and preparing it for a great future.

Some fun facts:

  • The number of baby boomers in America is estimated at 78.2 million.
  • Approximately 7,918 Americans turn 60 each day.
  • That's about 330 every hour or more than four million a year in 2006.
  • Within 20 years, the age profile of America will match that of Florida – about one in five Americans will be older than 65.

Just like their parents:

  • A recent Bureau of Labor Statistics study shows that 55-plus jobs are growing at an annual rate of 4.1 percent – four times the overall rate.
  • The 55+ age group controls more than three-fourths of America's wealth (ICSC).

What is important to a Baby Boomer:

  • Do they have enough for retirement?
  • Their Health?
  • Keeping Busy?
  • Living an active lifestyle?

Really Important!

  • The well being of their family.
  • The well being of their friends.
  • Seeing family and friends.
  • Entertaining family and friends.

  • Baby boomers take great pride in the appearance of their homes as 27% have had landscaping done in the past year and they are 21% more likely than all American adults to have spent $10,000 or more on home improvement in the past year (Scarborough).
  • The NAHB predicts that the aging in place remodeling market to be $20-$25 billion. That's about 10% of the $214 billion home improvement industry.

What are home improvements are baby boomers looking for?

  • Look at Facebook/Instagram/Twitter. Baby Boomers love their family and friends.
  • Now more than ever are looking to entertain and spend more time with them.
  • This means a home that is conducive to entertaining. An open floor plan works great!

What are home improvements are baby boomers looking for?

  • How about outside entertaining?
  • A deck, or a pergola?
  • Outside fireplace?
  • A Shed Bar or a She Shed?
  • Perhaps a outside games area for horseshoes, Bocce Ball, Cornhole?

There are lots of options when your friends and neighbors decide to open their home to family and friends.
